Like Choreographing a Dance Number …
Though I’m exhausted, I’m feeling really good about the training and rehearsal we put in for The Haymaker today.
The most enjoyable part of stunt fighting for me (next to actual filming) is this stage: planning the fight choreography. Stunt coordinator John Kreng (Night of the Templar) and boxing trainer Jeff Mulvin (Price of Glory) really know their stuff, and working for them has been a breeze. But then again, they have about 40 years of experience in film fighting between the two of them. So it’s no surprised that we staged the entire foundation for my fight scene in less than 30 minutes.
And I even got the chance to step in temporarily for the stunt fighter who plays the main antagonist to help craft his on-screen match, because the stunt fighter had to leave early. That gave me a chance to play a different character, if but for one hour off-camera, which was an interesting challenge.
Overall, a good day at the office.
