I’m All Wrapped Up
I’ve wrapped on The Haymaker.
Today was my second and last day on the set of the boxing movie, and it featured my only fight scene (hey, I did say this was a small role). Still, it was a good experience — even if I did get accidentally punched full-on in the eye. All part of the job as a stuntman, right?
But mostly, it was a good experience because of the cool people I got to meet and work with. The stunt team is a class act. Stunt coordinator John Kreng always provides loads of enlightenment about stunts and fight choreography –- not to mention plenty of laughs. And I couldn’t have asked for a better boxing trainer in Sensei Jeff Mulvin. This man can not only kick massive ass in all sorts of martial arts styles (he is the right-hand man of Benny “The Jet” Urquidez, after all) but he’s a great teacher, to boot.
The crew worked hard, too, from the grips all the way up the chain to the first assistant director, cinematographer, and director.
Plus, the principal actors, Trevor Morgan (Jurassic Park III and The Patriot) and Chris Butler (TV’s Cold Case and Boston Legal), were down-to-earth guys who helped keep the mood on the set light even when we were running out of time and film stock. They bring plenty of acting gravitas to the project, helping to get the fight done quickly and professionally.
I’m looking forward to seeing the final cut … and working with these guys again in the future.
Stay tuned for some behind-the-scenes photos from the set.
