Karate Kid + Jackie Chan = Kung Fu Kid
Did you know that they’re remaking The Karate Kid? With Will Smith’s son as the titular character. And Jackie Chan in the Miyagi role. And it’s going to be called The Kung Fu Kid.
Ugh. I gotta be honest, I groaned the first time I heard they were remaking The Karate Kid. Why does Hollywood continually remake good movies/TV shows? It’s supposed to remake only bad ones.
But then I started thinking some more. Chan is in it, and I’m pretty much going to watch everything he does, even if the caliber of his films have steadily dropped. Whether it’s the entertaining but elementary Forbidden Kingdom or the unintentionally laughable The Tuxedo.
Plus, it’s starring Smith’s kid, Jaden, who proved he can act in Pursuit of Happyness. And then there’s Smith himself acting as producer. He’s too talented to ignore. Despite all the knocks against him, you gotta remember, he’s a mega star. The first Grammy-winning rapper. And let’s not forget, Oscar-nominated actor. Hmm…ultimately, I’m going to watch The Kung Fu Kid. I figure any movie that promotes the martial arts in a positive light is a good movie.
And hopefully the fight choreography will be good — the stunt coordinator is Wu Gang, one of Chan’s proteges and stunt doubles.
